Gilford Jerome ""Jerry"" Kinsey 79 of Amarillo died Sunday September 27, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Chris Kutin, chaplain of the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery, Field of Valor. Military Honors will be rendered by the DAV Chapter #26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Kinsey was born in Lee County on April 29, 1930 to Joseph and Lattie (Weed) Kinsey. He moved to Amarillo in1953 From Merkel. Mr. Kinsey served in the Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat in December of 1951. He received a Purple Heart Medal along with numerous other medals for his service. Mr. Kinsey was a lifetime member of the DAV and the MOPH. He was a past commander of both organizations. In August, Mr. Kinsey received an award from the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center for volunteering more than 4000 hours. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Beaulah F. Dye on May 29, 1952 in Merkel. He was preceded in death by 12 half-brothers and sisters and a son Ronnie Joe Kinsey on November 7, 1995 He is survived by his wife, 1 daughter, Rebecca J. ""Becky"" Anderson and her husband Johnny E. of Amarillo; 1 son, Kenneth J. Kinsey and his wife Connie of Arlington; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Thomas E. Creek VAMC, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. W, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
