Gloria 'Chela' Malone

Gloria "Chela" Malone 73, of Amarillo died Monday, September 26, 2016 in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Chela was born in Amarillo on June 4, 1943 to Perfecto and Paubla (Carrasco) Chavez. She graduated from Amarillo High School and worked as a bilingual Head Start teacher for Region 16. She retired in 2014 after 25 years of faithful service. Chela's passion was being a beautician. She owned and operated her own salon for several years. She was a loving mother, wife sister and grandmother. Chela was very supportive to her family and was an amazing cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jody in 2014, her parents, one son, Johnny Hernandez in 1977 and a sister Sylvia Chavez in 1970. The family would like to thank all of the care givers at Open Heart House for taking care of Chela during her illness. She is survived by two sons, Leroy Hernandez and wife Lydia and Steven Malone all of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Isaac and Desiree and a great-grandson, Dominic.
