Harlan O. Witherspoon 71, of Amarillo died Wednesday September 22, 2010 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Witherspoon was born in Artesia, NM on October 29, 1938 to Howard H. and Pearl Jewel (Gestes) Witherspoon. He moved to Amarillo in 1939 from Artesia. He worked for Willborn Brothers Company and was a member of the Boilermaker's Union Local 531. He was a veteran of the Navy. Mr. Witherspoon was a devoted husband father and grandfather. He enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids to the country and teaching them to drive. He would say, ""We're going loafin"". He loved spending time with his family at the lake, water skiing. He also loved to hunt. He was dearly loved by his family and many friends. Mr. Witherspoon married Sandra Hunter on December 19, 1960 in Clovis. They were united in marriage nearly 50 years. He is survived by his wife, 1 son, Jeff Witherspoon and his wife Melody of Amarillo;, 1 daughter, Pam Sims and her husband Jeff of Shady Shores; 2 brothers, Jack Witherspoon and James ""Bo"" Witherspoon, both of Amarillo; 2 sisters, Sue Oldham of Morris, OK, and Jean Dremmel of Amarillo; 4 grandchildren, Hunter Witherspoon, Cheston Taylor, Bridgette Taylor and Travis Taylor and a great-grandson, Heath Witherspoon. The family suggests memorial donations to Olivia's Angels in care of BSA Hospice or a favorite charity.
