James S. Elicker 80, of Panhandle died Sunday December 18, 2011 in the loving arms of his family, after a brief illness. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at the Carson County War Memorial with Military Honors rendered by the Fort Hood Honor Guard of Fort Hood, Texas. Cremation and Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St, Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Elicker was born in York, PA. He moved to Panhandle 17 years ago from Colorado Springs where he had resided for 30 years. He enlisted in the Army in 1950. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was discharged as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1971. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He married the love of his life, RuthAnn Stephenson in 1959 at Fort Carson, CO. He was a member of the VFW post 6972 in Panhandle. He loved to fish and garden. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bob Elicker, Gene Elicker and Hap Elicker and a sister, Helen Elicker Horner. He is survived by his wife, 1 son, Cheif Warrant Officer 4 (ret) Christopher Douglas Elicker of San Antonio; 3 daughters, Cathleen Ann Stinson of Kinde, Mich. Penelope Elicker-Flynn of Oro Valley, AZ and Corinne Carter of Maricopa, AZ; 1 brother, Jack Elicker of York, PA; and 4 grandchildren, William Stinson, Shane Flynn, Amanda Carter and Henry Elicker. The family requests memorial donations to the VFW post 6972 of Panhandle.
