James Luther “Jim” Harper, 61, of Amarillo died Thursday. Memorial services will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Jeff Raines, associate pastor officiating. The family will meet visitors from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church. There will be a private family interment at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Harper was raised in Borger. He played football at Borger High School, and graduated in 1959. He attended Texas A&M College at College Station on a full football scholarship. He was involved in ROTC there as well. He moved to Fritch in 1969. He worked for the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. for 30 years. He retired and moved to Amarillo in 1996. Survivors include: his wife, Waynett of the home; 1 son, Jeff Harper of Amarillo; 4 grandsons, Cody Harper, Jerrod Harper, Tyler Harper, and Aaron Harper, all of Amarillo; 1 sister Wanda Catchings of Sylacauga, AL; and 1 brother, Ronald Peterson of Borger.
