James V. Kirkland

James V. Kirkland 80, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Royce Mason, pastor of Great Plains Western Church officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. James was born in Lubbock. He moved to Amarillo in 1963 from Lubbock. He was an ironworker and a member of the Ironworker's Local Union. He retired from Randall County Road and Bridge after many years of dedicated service. He loved Bluegrass music, He played the standup bass and was a member of the Panhandle Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association. He served as president of the PBOMA and made many life-long friends. James loved the outdoors and the country way of life. He raised horses, cattle and chickens. He was a former member of the Pony Express Riders and the Rolling Hills Riding Club. He married his best friend, Eyde McNutt in 1982 in Canyon. James is survived by his wife, three daughters, Carolyn Janek of Eddy, Misti Davis of Yukon, OK and Michelle Michael of Ardmore, OK; four sons, Barry Kirkland of Georgetown, Tim Kirkland of Alvarado, Rodney Lacy of Waxahachie and Phillip Lacy of Panhandle; one brother Roy Kirkland of Hale Center and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
