James L. Estes, 86 of Amarillo died Wednesday December 25, 2002 in Morton. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at San Jacinto Church of Christ with Bret McCasland of Central Church of Christ officiating. Graveside Masonic Rites will be by San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #1330 A.F. & A.M. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Estes was born in Quanah. After graduating from Quanah High School, he moved to Pasadena where he worked for Reed Roller-Bit Manufacturing. He relocated to Nacogdoches in 1947. He worked for Toms Toasted Peanuts Co. and then for Kelloggs Cereal, which transferred him to Amarillo in 1952. He later worked for Murdock Brokerage Co. retiring in 1975. He was a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ and 50 year member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge. He married Virginia Mae Kelley on December 25, 1937 at Quanah. She died Aug. 6, 2002. He was also preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law; Hill Smith, Jr. in 1996 and Eddie Messer, Sept 25, 2002. Survivors include: 2 daughters; Barbara Messer of Amarillo and Donna Schmidt of Morton, 1 son; James R. Estes of Amarillo, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family request Memorial Donations be to Hospice of Lubbock, Crown of Texas Hospice or the High Plains Childrens Home.
