James "JD" Lawler, 78, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 24, 2021. The family will host a memorial service at the Loft Church on August 7, 2021, at 5:00 pm officiated by Matt Johnson. Arrangements and cremation are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. JD was born in Ward County on April 12, 1943, to Lillie May and Velma Lawler. He was a jokester and the life of the party. JD was a good man that enjoyed making others laugh. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. His personality was bigger than life its self. He didnt mind giving you a hard time, but JD was humble and made sure to make those around him feel welcomed. JD met the love of his life, Mary at the Kettle restaurant. They married on September 22, 1989. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren adored him. He dressed as Santa Claus for the grandchildren every year. JD was a hardworking man. He owned numerous businesses around Amarillo. He retired from North West Texas Hospital after 11 years. He played Will in the Gunslingers club and was a Quick Draw McGraw. JD is Preceded in death by his parents, his two sons; Cory Green and George Chambers, his two sisters; Beatrice Curb and June Perse, and one brother, Richard Lawler. JD is survived by his wife, Mary Lawler, his five daughters; Tonya Lawler, Tammy Martinez, and her husband Mondo, Dolores Hero, Mimi Hero-Pruitt and her husband Rex, and Amy Hero, four Sons; Robert Lawler and wife Valerie, Darrell Lawler, Cal Hero and his wife Helena, and James Hero and his wife Rachel, 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ted Lawler and his wife Donna.
