James 'Jim' Reed

James Jim Reed, 64 of Canyon died Wednesday February 11, 2015 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, Senior Pastor and Robby Barrett, Minister of Education officiating. Cremation was by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Reed was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He moved to Canyon in 2001 from Quincy, Ill. Mr. Reed received two masters degrees. He earned a Masters in religious education from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth and a Masters in Education and Administrative Services from the University of Missouri. Mr. Reed served as the youth pastor of First Baptist Church in Farmington, NM, Minister of Education at Cullendale Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas. He was currently serving as the Director of Financial Aid at West Texas A&M where he had worked for the past 14 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He married Beverly Swan on August 19, 1972 in Vandalia, MO. Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home, 2 brothers in law, Steve Swan of Columbia, MO and Gary Nichols of Vandalia, MO; 1 sister in law, Denna Nichols of Vandalia, MO, and 6 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the James Reed Scholarship Fund at West Texas A&M University or the James Reed Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church of Amarillo
