James D. Rogge

Jim Rogge of Naples, Florida died of natural causes on Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas. He was born March 31, 1937 to Jennie and Delbert Rogge (deceased). After attending Cathedral and West Lafayette High School, he continued his studies at Indiana University, where he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega. Jim then attended Indiana School of Medicine where he graduated with honors in 1963. He later served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, and was assigned to the Space Program at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. In keeping with his strong devotion to his Catholic faith, Jim singlehandedly opened his own gastroenterology practice at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ten years later he created a program with Eli Lilly pioneering affordable colonoscopy screening for colon cancer. This model has seeded one of the largest medical data banks in the world. He subsequently served as president of the medical staff in 1987, and in 2004 was awarded Physician of the Year. Jim also served on the Franciscan Alliance Board for several years. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Nancy Nelson Rogge of Naples, Florida, his two daughters Megan Rogge Huffman of Amarillo, Texas, and Amy Rogge Mack of Seattle, Washington, his son-in-law David Lee Mack, and his grandchildren Clayton Ward Huffman, Mackenzie Jane Huffman and Duncan James Mack. A memorial service is scheduled for April 11, 2018, 10:00 AM, at St. Williams Church in Naples, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana, The Alzheimers Association of Naples, Florida, or BSA Hospice of the Southwest, Amarillo, Texas.
