James Thomson, a spirited and kind man with an analytical mind, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on September 21, 1944, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, born to Roy and Lola Thompson. Roy preceded him in death James lived a life marked by deep spirituality, a love for the land, and a dedication to his family.
James, known affectionately to those around him as just that, cherished the simple joys of life. His profound love for Jesus was at the core of his existence, guiding his actions and providing a wellspring of strength and compassion. James's passion for the outdoors was evident in the meticulous care he took of his 80-acre land where he raised 60 head of cattle with pride and joy. He found solace in the rhythm of the countryside, from the break of dawn to the setting sun, and the bond he shared with the earth was a testament to his character.
An adventurous soul, James reveled in the freedom of the open road, taking to it on his motorcycle with the wind as his companion. These rides were not just a hobby but a reflection of his enduring quest for life's simple pleasures and a sense of connection with the world around him.
James was a family man through and through. He held an exceptionally close relationship with his mother, whose influence and love remained a guiding light throughout his life. He was a beloved brother to Vicki Bishop and her husband Rodney, Rodney Thompson and his wife Anna, and Ken Thompson and his wife Marion. His role as a uncle was one he held dear, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his nieces and nephews: Lori, Erika, Grant, Christi, Terry, Angela, and Jude. James's expansive family also included nine great-nephews, eight great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew, all of whom will miss his presence deeply.
James's life was one of thoughtful reflection and purposeful action. Those who knew him were touched by his spirited nature, his unfailing kindness, and his analytical approach to life's challenges. He was a man who thought deeply about the world and his place in it, striving always to make a meaningful contribution and to live with intention and integrity.
As we bid farewell to James Thomson, we celebrate the life he lived so fully and the love he shared so generously. He was a beacon of light and strength in the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. James's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
In honoring James's life, we remember not just the man he was but the impact he had on each of us. His lessons of love, dedication to family, and respect for nature will resonate for generations to come. May we all aspire to live as James did, with a heart full of faith, hands ready to help, and a spirit that soars freely.
Rest in peace, James Thomson. Your legacy is one of love, and your memory will forever be etched in the annals of time.
