James Raymon Wood, 87 of Amarillo died Sunday April 16, 2006 in Amarillo. Services will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday at Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel with Rev. Robert E. Field, retired Baptist Minister officiating. Military Rites will be by DAV Chapter #26. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 South Coulter Amarillo. Mr. Wood was born in Howe. He was raised on a farm near Lark. Mr. Wood attended Clarendon College and West Texas College. He served in the Navy during WWII as a captain on a sub-chaser. After returning to Amarillo, he began working for Texaco. In 1949, he left Texaco to run a ranch for his brother-in-law in southeast Colorado. He returned to Amarillo in 1952 and rejoined the Texaco Corporation. While at Texaco, he returned to college and received a BS in Mathematics from West Texas State University. He worked as a chemist at the Amarillo refinery until 1963 and then helped with the opening of Texaco Refineries in Guatemala and Honduras. After returning to the States, Mr. Wood worked in environmental areas until his retirement in 1974. He married Jeanne Elizabeth Whitaker in February of 1942. After his retirement from Texaco, they moved to Mountain Home, ID, where they owned and operated an electrical company. Following Jeanne's death in 1982, Raymon returned to Amarillo. He resided at the Continental. Mr. Wood loved music and played the guitar for the Lakeside Ramblers and the Half Price Band. He was a member of the Western Swing Music Association. Survivors include: 2 sons; Lloyd Wood and his wife Barbara and Jim Wood and his wife Fern all of Amarillo, 1 brother Bobby Wood and his wife Mary of Clarendon, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Faith City Mission 401 SE 2nd Ave. Amarillo, Texas 79101 or a favorite charity.
