James "Jim" Roger Woodroffe, 78, of Amarillo passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2022, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (6900 Hillside Road, Amarillo) officiated by Pastor Joe Andrajack. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, Osage Chapel, 2800 South Osage, Amarillo, TX. Jim was born June 10, 1943 in Evansville, IN to Verne and Mildred (Anderson) Smalley. As his family moved during his childhood, he resided in Boyd, OK; Liberal, KS; Joplin, MO; Perryton, TX and Amarillo where he attended San Jacinto Elementary School. He graduated from Jamesburg High School, Jamesburg, NJ. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a photographer and motion picture camera-man aboard the USS FORRESTAL (CVA-59). Jim graduated from the University of Delaware in 1973 with a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Mathematics. He was employed by E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., Inc. from 1974-1995 where he advanced to Senior Research Physicist. After retiring, Jim returned to Amarillo where he taught at San Jacinto Christian Academy 2001-2007. After completion of the WTAMU PACE Program he taught at Borger High School 2007-2013; and substituted for AISD 2013-2017. Jim had a wide variety of interests from being an avid reader to life long horseman. He was a 2nd degree black belt in Shaolin Su Kempo. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Sigma Pi Sigma (National Physics Honor Society), American Physical Society, Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society in Education) and Who's Who Worldwide. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Richard A. Woodroffe; his sister Glenna and an infant son Jonathan Woodroffe. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Brenda Alkire Woodroffe; daughter Jennifer Woodroffe; son Joshua J Woodroffe (wife Melissa); granddaughter Lorelei Woodroffe; grandsons Aidan Woodroffe and Ryan Woodroffe; brother Philip Woodroffe (wife Patty) and nephew Jesse Woodroffe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Prince of Peace, Scholarship Fund, 6900 Hillside Road, Amarillo, TX 79109.
