Janice L. Rutherford, 75, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday May 20, 2015 in Amarillo. No Services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Janice was born on July 20, 1939 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to Argus and Mildred Fitzgerald. She grew up in Sunray and graduated from Sunray High School in 1957. After high school she moved to Amarillo and worked at the Old Herring Hotel and Drug Store, Levi Strauss and Montgomery Grocers. She married the love of her life Gary Dean Rutherford on January 12, 1961, together they owned Garys Lock and Key for many years. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1997. Janice was an avid reader and quilter. She has hand made over 700 quilts and donated them thru the years, to Caprock Daycare, Family Support Services, and the Eveline Rivers Christmas Project. Janice has been quilting for over 50 years. She always wanted to make sure the children that received her quilts felt safe and loved. Janice received the Heart and Hand Award for her community service by the Ogallala Quilters Society. She is preceded in death by; a brother, Argus Granville Fitzgerald Jr. She is survived by: a daughter; Leslie Ishmael and her husband Don of Miami, a son; Garrett Rutherford and his wife Joyce of Amarillo, three sisters; Jeanette Gutschke and her husband Roger of Shallowater, Karla Baker and Karen Fitzgerald both of Amarillo, three grandchildren; Daymond Rutherford, Natasha Perez, and Gavin Grinie, and 12 great grandchildren.
