Jean Jennings

June 20, 1931 — March 31, 2014

Jean Jennings, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother died peacefully on March 31 at the age of 82. She will be profoundly missed. Memorial services will be held at Pleasant Valley United Methodists Church, April 5 at 11:00 am with Reverend Rob Blum officiating. Jean was born in Pocasset Oklahoma on June 20, 1931 to Lloyd and Alice Barnes. She moved to Happy Texas with her mother and graduated from Happy High School in 1949. While living in Happy, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Jennings, they were married in 1950, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary this past January 26. Jean was a busy housewife taking care of her family. She was a talented seamstress and made many of the beautiful dresses her 3 daughters wore. She was active in her children's lives serving as Girl Scout leader, and room mother when her girls were in school. When her youngest daughter was in elementary school, she worked in the school cafeteria at Mesa Verde, later she worked as a hall monitor and office aid at Palo Duro High school. Jean was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was very active in The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving as Mother Advisor and on the advisory board for several terms. She continued this practice with her granddaughters. In addition, Jean loved art and painting. She taught Tole painting for many years, she enjoyed researching genealogy, enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the RV travel club Buffalo Ramblers. Jean was preceded in death by her father Lloyd William Barnes, her mother Alice Jean McGuyer, and her daughter Peggy Anne Wright. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Dona Baucom and husband Sam of Divide, Colorado and Jan Price of Amarillo, 6 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild, and a cousin James Eugene Littlefield of Arlington, TX In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be to the ASPCA 11901 S. Coulter St. Amarillo, Texas 79119.
