Jerry Rector

Jerry Rector 74, of Amarillo died Thursday, October 7, 2021 at his home. Services will be at 11 am Thursday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Lynn Rector, son officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 pm Thursday at Mobeetie Cemetery. Jerry was born on Feb. 16, 1947 in Pampa. He was raised in Mobeetie and graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1965. Jerry was the youngest state trooper to graduate from the DPS Academy in 1968. He worked as a state trooper and a deputy at the Potter County Sheriff's Dept. In 1972, Jerry went to work at the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked as a brakeman, conductor and engineer. He also taught Operation Lifesaver for many years. He retired in 2009 as a grade crossing safety coordinator. After retiring, he worked at Road Runner Driving School, where he taught driver's education and defensive driving. Jerry had a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party. He made many lifelong friends and enjoyed having get togethers at his home. He loved cooking for the masses. He loved his family and friends with a passion. He married Marjorie "J" Piccone on Feb. 26, 1993. She preceded him in death in 2011. He married Shelley Black on June 26, 2015 in Amarillo. Jerry is survived by his wife; his daughter Amy Rector of Wichita Falls; three sons, Lynn Rector of Mobeetie, Steve Rector of Lexington, SC and Rance Rector and his wife Sophie of McKinney; his step son, Brandon Blankinship of Pflugerville; his sister, Melba Corcoran of Mobeetie; two brothers, Galen Don Rector of Mead, CO and D.L. Rector of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Cody, Sarah, Anissa, Morgan, Hanna, Molly and Jud Keith "Jake" and 5 great grandchildren.
