A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 9 at Llano Cemetery East with Jeff Messer, chaplain of Bivins Memorial, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Glen was born on August 18, 1924 in Paris, TX to Charlie Coleman and Maggie Etta Phipps. He resided in Amarillo for most of his life. He was stationed in the Philippines during WWII while serving in the U.S. Army. Glen married Billie Clanton, and later married Mary Clary in 1957. He was a devoted worker, and did so for several years as an appliance repair technician. He was employed by Consolidated Appliances for a number of years, and later for Montgomery Wards until his retirement. Glen was a strong Christian man with a sweet and gentle spirit. He was a friend to many, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and a son, Jessie Glen Phipps Jr. Survivors include a son, Douglass Phipps and wife Judy of Oklahoma City, OK; 2 granddaughters, April Hetherington of Juno, Alaska, and Michelle Evans of Oklahoma City, OK; and 6 great grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made Bivins Memorial Nursing Home.
