Jesse Boyd White, known affectionately as "Boyd" and "Grandpa", passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 9, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. Born October 18, 1936, in Leila Lake, Texas, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katy "Kate" White.
Boyd graduated from Leila Lake School in 1955 and furthered his education at Clarendon College. He then went on to graduate from Wayland Baptist College where he received a bachelor's degree and pursued a career in education. He was a dedicated schoolteacher for more than 30 years teaching in Happy and Pringle, Texas as well as Hinkely, California.
In 1956 Boyd welcomed his first child, Karen Cheryl proceeded by his son Jay Boyd White. Boyd married Christene, his beloved wife of 49 years, and gained another daughter, Vivian Marie. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Boyd was an avid fan of all sports, especially college basketball, volleyball and football. He was a member of the Buffalo Club, Canyon, Texas. He loved to fish and take his pontoon boat out on the lake. His barbecue grilled chicken is legendary and will always be remembered for his sprinkle pancakes and popcorn making skills. Boyd cherished time spent with his 8 grandchildren (Ian, Katrina, Travis, Jayboyd, Jessalyn, Dillon, Nathan and Emili), 15 great-grandchildren (Nicholas, Carter, Kaelen, Charlee, Keller, Chance, Gracie, Cora, Julian, Jazmynn, Justin, Katitlin, Grayson, Layla, Jessie) and recently welcomed his first great-great-grandchild Kollins. Boyd is survived by three sisters, Tena White Mooring, Betty White Franklin and Winnie White Frenchi. This favorite uncle is also survived by several nephews and nieces and cousins.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Katy, his son Jay Boyd White, and siblings Wilcey White, Billy White, Margaret White Hansard and LouElla White Myers. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children and grandchildren. Boyd will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, doting grandfather and friend. His stories, songs, wisdom, strength and love will be missed by those who knew him.
