Jessie Faye Martinez

June 18, 1925 — May 11, 2011

A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 am Friday, May 13 at Paramount Baptist Deaf Church with Darrell Bonjour officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Jessie was born on June 18, 1925 in Estelline. As a child, she attended the state school for the deaf in Austin. She later moved to Denver, where she resided for 30 years, prior to moving to Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Deaf Church. Jessie was passionate about volunteering her time with the local deaf community. She had a compassionate and caring heart, and enjoyed being around people. She also enjoyed playing cards, and quilting. Many would describe her as having a great, yet interesting sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Burnside. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Martinez of Amarillo; a sister, Beverly Vanpelt of Wyoming; 2 granddaughters, Kim Sims and husband Stoney of Bushland, and Jessica Moore and husband Ethan of Canyon; 5 great grandchildren, Grayson, Ally, Libby, Kennedy, and Hank; and a daughter in law, Phyllis Tebo of Amarillo. The family requests that memorials be made to Paramount Baptist Deaf Church.
