Jimmie Thomas Carpenter 78, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Bob Miller, pastor of Crossroads Cowboy Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Carpenter was born on Aug. 26, 1935 in Vernon. He moved to Amarillo in 2003. Jimmie was a very hard worker. He worked as a farmer and rancher around Muleshoe for many years. He also bought and sold livestock in various parts of Texas. Jimmie was a loving father. He spent many years taking his kids to junior rodeos and teaching them the "Cowboy" way of life. He was active in 4H and loved helping youngsters excel in life. He married Betty Ruth Leavitt in 1955. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Foerster and Oma Mathews Gray, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy, Erica and Cody and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Alex. He is survived by 3 daughters, Lavern Burton and her husband Justin of Granby, Colo, Joie Hutchens and her husband Mickey of Amarillo and Sharon Burris and her husband Orvis of Muleshoe; one son, Curtis Carpenter and his wife Shelli of Muleshoe; his former wife Betty Ruth Carpenter of Vega; one sister, Janet Obenhaus of Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Brandi, Piper, Chancey, Brian, Jessica, Jamie, Colby, Tessa and Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren, Bralee, Gavin, Gentri, Truitt, Tatum, Kennedy, Ellie, Hayden, Lainey, Kambry, Jett and Paislee and numerous other family members.
