Joanna Minnie Fernandez, affectionately known as Joanna, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 50. Born on August 14, 1973, in Dimmit, Texas, to Juan and Margarita Reyes, Joanna was a beacon of joy and love to all who knew her.


Joanna's life was a tapestry of deep family connections and enduring friendships. She found her soulmate in Joe Fernandez at a dance hall, and they were united in marriage on the Fourth of July in 1993. Their loving union was blessed with two sons, Joshua Fernandez and his wife Alexandria, and Joel Fernandez and his girlfriend Juliet Valdez. grandchildren Vedha and Rush. Joanna was the heart of her family, which also included her devoted parents, her brother Fidencio Reyes, her sisters Amalia and husband John Ventura, Christina and husband Luis Flores, Veronica and husband Ralph Longoria, Yoli and husband Gonzales Robles, Norma and husband Rudy Cuellar, Juan Luis Reyes, Esmeralda Reyes, and Christopher and wife Samantha Reyes. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was the guiding star for her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Joanna was preceded in death by her brother Fidel Reyes and her beloved father-in-law, Mike Fernandez.


A proud graduate of Randall High School, Joanna furthered her education at Amarillo College, where she studied phlebotomy. Her commitment to helping others led her to a fulfilling 25-year career as a health unit coordinator at Northwest Texas Hospital. Joanna's work ethic, dedication, and compassionate nature made her a respected figure among her colleagues and the many lives she touched through her professional role.


Joanna's zest for life was evident in her many passions and hobbies. She was the life of the party, always ready with a warm smile and an infectious laugh. A true matriarch, Joanna was not only a mother and a best friend, but also an amazing role model to her family. Inspired by her father-in-law, she took up gardening and had a particular fondness for the vibrant hibiscus. Joanna's love for music was profound; she enjoyed singing and dancing, especially to country and Tejano tunes, with Eric Church being her favorite artist. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, she never missed a game and relished the camaraderie of watching with her loved ones.


Joanna's home was the hub of celebration, where she loved to host parties and get-togethers. She made every occasion special with her generous spirit and delightful sense of humor. Her ability to make everyone around her feel loved and important was one of her most remarkable traits.


Those who knew Joanna would describe her as loving, generous, and funny. She had a big heart and was always involved in the lives of those around her. Joanna's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless memories she created with everyone she met.


Joanna's life was a testament to the power of love and the impact one person can have on so many. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be cherished forever.
