Joe Michael Haynes 61, of Amarillo died Saturday February 14, 2009 at the Thomas E. Creek VAMC. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at Llano Cemetery with Ronald Barry, friend officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Haynes was born in Amarillo. He served in the Marines during Vietnam, where he completed 2 combat tours with the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regimen, 3rd Marine Division. He was involved in one battle in which he was one of 32 soldiers that survived out of 282. He was discharged in 1973 as a Staff Sergeant. He returned to Amarillo after being discharged from the Marine Corps. He later owned and operated an auto sales business and then a trucking company that covered all the states. Mr. Haynes enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. He received the Resident of the Month at the Thomas E. Creek VA Nursing Facility in April of 2006. He is survived by a sister, Jana Moore of Amarillo; a nephew, Shayne Brach of Amarillo; a niece, Jami Ann Hunt of Salt Lake City, UT; an uncle Jimmy Don Mitchell of Panhandle; and many friends.
