A service celebrating his life will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Comanche Trail Church of Christ with Roland Bowen of Brownwood and Loran Harper of Amarillo officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Hunt was born Dec. 26, 1948, in Slaton to Guy B. and Alta M. Hunt. He graduated from Cy Fair High School in Houston and received a bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian College. He married Priscilla Richardson on Aug. 4, 1972. They lived in Houston until 1983, when they relocated to Amarillo. He later earned an Aviation Maintenance and Airframe Mechanic certificate from Amarillo College. Joe owned and operated several sole proprietor businesses in Houston and Amarillo. He was the ""Jewel Tea"" man from Plainview to Dalhart from 1988 to 2008. For the past three years, he was an employee of the Conoco-Phillips Refinery in Borger. He was an active mentor in church, taught bible class, was a mentor at the Neal Unit, worked with the ""Improve Your English"" program at Comanche Trail Church of Christ, and was a regular blood donor. He was dedicated to his family and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; a son, Richard Hunt and wife Jennifer of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Valerie, Dillon and Trent; his mother, Alta Hunt of Gunter; three sisters, Linda Hamm of Fairview, Karen Valdez of Dripping Springs and Deb Stidolph of Weatherford; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
