Joe Gilbert Martinez

Joe Gilbert Martinez 89, of Amarillo died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in Amarillo. Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Jim Fox, chaplain of Hospice Care of the Southwest officiating. Interment will be in the Field of Valor at Llano East Cemetery. Military Honors will be by DAV Chapter #26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Martinez was born in Cuervo, NM. He served in the Army during WWII. He moved to Amarillo in 1951 From New Mexico. Mr. Martinez was a loving father and husband. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Martinez worked at Baptist St. Anthonys Healthcare System in the maintenance department for many years. He married the love of his life, Sadie Sena on September 1, 1943. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2013. Mr. Martinez was always smiling and had a kind spirit that he passed on to his children ad grandchildren. He will be missed. He is survived by his son, Robert Martinez and his wife Louisa of Panhandle; 2 daughters, Linda Reichert and her husband Ken of Rowlett and Mary Herron and her husband Roy of San Antonio; 2 sisters, Dorothy Baca and Clorinda Aragon both of Albuquerque, NM; 2 brothers, Jake Martinez of Tucumcari, NM and Tony Martinez of Clovis, NM; 5 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Activities Fund at Georgia Manor Nursing Home 2611 SW 46th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79110. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
