Joe Salazar

Joe Salazar 70 of Amarillo, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 6 pm Monday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Deacon Pablo Morales officiating. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 am Tuesday at St. Laurence Catholic Church with Fr. Haider Quintero officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Joe was born on April 25, 1950 in Amarillo to Gilbert and Nestora (Gonzales) Salazar. He worked at Bell Helicopter for more than 13 years and retired from Leading Edge Aviation, where he painted aircraft. He painted many Vietnam helicopters and the Air Force One replica that was used in the movie. He married Yolanda Mendez on April 6, 1974 at St. Laurence Cathedral. Joe enjoyed all types of music and was a great dancer. He also loved riding his Harley and was very fond of his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 46 years; two daughters, Christina Maldonado and her husband Juan and Rachel Dominguez and her husband Eric, all of Amarillo; two sons, David Mendez of Dallas and Joe Salazar of Amarillo; five sisters, his twin, Josephine Jimenez of Clayton, NM, Stella Martinez of Tucumcari, NM, Rosalie Mascarenas, Gloria Garcia and Tillie Salazar all of Amarillo; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
