John Henry Kevin Lemley, known as Kevin to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 60, in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas. Born on July 26, 1964 in Amarillo, Kevin lived a life of humor, bringing laughter to all those who were close to him.
Kevin’s early years were spent under the guidance of his parents, Clarence and Georgia Lemley, alongside his sisters, Trudy and J. Parker. Although he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister J. Parker, his spirit is carried on through his beloved family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and endearment with his daughters, Kimberly Goss and her husband Bry, Jenny Perez and her husband Aaron; his son, John Lemley and his wife Sommer; his sister, Trudy Smothermon and her two sons Justin and Logan; and his cherished eight grandchildren, Brey, Brevyn, Brextyn, Brylie, Kaden, Aria, Oslynn, and Lilah.
Kevin proudly served his country as a Desert Storm Army Veteran and continued his commitment to service in the Army Reserves. His dedication to his country was matched only by his dedication to his family. Kevin's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a protective presence, always ready to do anything for his loved ones. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
An avid dog lover, Kevin’s faithful companions Una and Carrie were a constant source of loyalty and comfort throughout his life. Kevin’s sarcastic sense of humor was one of his most defining traits, ensuring laughter was never in short supply when he was around. Kevin’s ability to find humor in the midst difficult situations made every gathering a memorable one.
Kevin was an exceptional cook; known for his culinary skills and the love he poured into every dish he prepared. His family and friends will forever cherish the meals shared and the stories told around the dinner table. In his leisure time, Kevin enjoyed reading. His time was well spent learning new words to throw in the middle of a sentence each day. Kevin liked keeping up to date with politics, watching movies, and most importantly, long phone calls with loved ones.
Those who knew Kevin would describe him as ornery, quick-witted and giving —three words that encapsulate the essence of a man who made a lasting impact on the hearts of many. Kevin's warmth, generosity, and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
