Johnnie Cates, 77 of Amarillo, died Tuesday November 30, 2004. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Llano Cemetery with Bobby Cates officiating. Services and Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 South Osage. Mr. Johnnie Cates was born in Sasakwa OK and was raised in Amarillo. He served in the Army during WWII. He is survived by his family and friends at the Valley Inn. He was happiest when he was with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife Darrelie of the home; 1 daughter Rosemary Herring of Round Rock, TX; 4 sons: Martin Cates of Springtown, TX, Jimmy Phillips of Amarillo, Jeffrey Cates of Amarillo, and Sam Phillips of Amarillo; 5 sisters: Martha Junell of Amarillo, Laverne Elliott of Tiller, AR, Iona Givins of Amarillo, Mary Lou Freeman of Stockton, CA, and Helen Harper of Fairbanks, AK; and 1 brother: Frank Cates of Tucson, AZ.; 8 grand children and 11 great grand-children. He was preceded in death by: his wife Peggy Carlile Cates of 52 years; 2 sons Harold Phillips and Johnny Cates; and 4 brothers Jimmy Cates, Lonnie Cates, Doug Cates, and Leonard Cates.
