Josephine Velasquez Guajardo

Josephine Guajardo, 87, of Amarillo passed on March 8, 2023. A celebration of Josephines life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 3pm at New Life Church, 406 S. Pittsburgh St with Pastor Spike Maldonado presiding. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. Josephine Velasquez was born May 17, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas to Apolonio Sr and Mary (Floyd) Velasquez. She was the eldest of the familys eight children. From birth Josephine had a certain spark and outgoing personality. She charmed every room she entered with a smile that resonated throughout each corner of the home. This followed her all throughout her teenage and adult years. She never met a stranger in her whole 87 years. Standing in line at the grocery store checkout, she would strike up a conversation with whomever was in front of or behind her. Josephine was quiet literally the life of the party. She was silly and had a sense of humor unparalleled to any. She loved to laugh and make those around her laugh. This coupled with her strong will made her the strong woman many got to know. She was a fighter, stubborn down to the very end. She never let an ailment bring her down. Even as she got along in age, Josephine could be found getting down on the dance floor. No matter the genre of music, be it rock, country, hip hop or whatever was on, she was the first on the dance floor and the last one to leave it. Josephine loved her music. But most of all, Josephine loved her family. She was dedicated to them, especially her grandkids. They could do no wrong in her eyes. Grandma was always there for all six of them. Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Apolonio Jr and Frankie Velasquez, sister Diana Garcia, and great granddaughter Analiah Flores. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Star Carabajal and husband Estephan, son Chris Guajardo, sisters Betty Garza and Rosemary Somora, brothers Martin and Jody Velasquez, six grandchildren; and many other loving family and dear friends.
