Joyce Ann Sikes

Joyce Ann Sikes 71 of Amarillo died Tuesday January 1, 2008 at her home. Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Pastor Greg Kinch of South Lawn Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 South Osage St., Amarillo TX. Joyce was born in Ardmore Oklahoma on November 3, 1936 to Sadie Agnes Gibbs and Bud Harvey Gibbs. She grew up in San Diego, Calif. Joyce was baptized in December 1951 at Logan Heights Baptist Church in San Diego, Calif. She and her family moved to Jacksonville Florida in August 1953. There, she met Haskel and they were married March 21, 1954. She was a member of South Lawn Baptist Church, she loved South Lawn Baptist Church, especially singing and working for the church. Her favorite hymns were, ""Jesus, Name Above All Names"", ""Jesus Loves Me"", and ""Amazing Grace"". Her hobbies were taking pictures, designing photo albums, doing scrap books, and making crafts. She was a loving mother and wife, a kind hearted and unselfish person who always tried to do what was best for her family and church. Joyce traveled a great deal because Haskel was in the Air Force for 24 years of their marriage. She raised four Christian children, sometimes on her own while Haskel served two isolated tours. In 1978 Haskel let her choose where to settle down. She chose Amarillo where she lived for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lois and a brother, Harvey. Survivors include her husband Haskel Sikes; three sons, John Gibbs of California; Michael Ray Sikes and wife, Elaine of Duncanville TX; and Steven Shay Sikes and wife, Monika, of Allen TX; two daughters, Brenda Renee Harkless and husband, Rick, of Dayton, OH, and Donna Kay Choate and husband, Richard, of Plano, TX; a sister-in-law, Margaret Gibbs of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Ruth Wheatley of Hatboro PA.
