Juan Cruz-Zuniga

November 23, 1942 — July 1, 2024

Juan Cruz-Zuniga, known affectionately as Juan by his friends and family, left this world on July 1, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 81. Born on November 23, 1942, in Honduras, Juan's journey through life was marked by his charismatic spirit and generous heart.

Juan's story began in the vibrant landscapes of Honduras, where he was born to Raquel Cruz and Rafaela Zuniga. His early years were shared with his loving parents and siblings, including his brother Victor Vrisuela who preceded him in death. In time, Juan's path led him to Amarillo, Texas, where he would lay down roots and build a life filled with laughter, hard work, and an abundance of love.

A man of great humor and warmth, Juan had an exceptional talent for storytelling and could light up any room with his jokes. His laughter was infectious, and his presence alone was enough to bring joy to those around him. Juan was a devoted husband to his wife Leticia Marquez for 34 years until her passing, their partnership a testament to enduring love and mutual respect.

Juan's legacy is carried on by his cherished family. He was a loving father to his three daughters, Dilcia Samayoa and husband Edgar, Ruth Tagle and husband Joe, and Gladis Oneyda Silva and husband Julio; and his three sons, Juan Cruz Jr. and wife Rachael, Osman Cruz and wife Maria, and Jesus Cruz and wife Maura. He was also a guiding light to his sisters, Teressa Cruz and Maia Mendoza. Juan took immense pride in his family, guiding them with a gentle hand and an open heart.

His love for the earth was evident in his passion for gardening and planting trees. Juan's garden was a reflection of his soul, a serene haven where he nurtured life and beauty. Every seed he planted and every flower that bloomed stood as a symbol of his dedication and care.

Juan's life was one of service and generosity. He was always there for anyone in need, willing to help without hesitation. His big heart and selfless nature left a lasting impact on the community and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those who knew Juan will remember him as a man who was not only loving and funny but also exceptionally generous. His actions were driven by love, and his memory will continue to inspire those he has left behind.

Juan Cruz-Zuniga's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of joy, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the countless ways he enriched the lives of others.
