Julia Elnita Atkins, 87 formerly of Mobeetie, ied Sunday April 23, 2006 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne, pastor officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM at Mobeetie Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 South Coulter Amarillo. Mrs. Atkins was born and raised in Mobeetie and had lived in Mobeetie most of her life. She married Herk Atkins in 1935 at Sweetwater. They owned and Operated Atkins Grocery for more than 30 years. She also worked as a hairdresser for more than 15 years. Mrs. Atkins was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mobeetie. She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 great-grandchildren; Caleb Ryan Atkins and Tyler Jayne Atkins. Survivors include: 1 son; William Herbert Atkins and his wife Loretta of Amarillo, 2 sisters; Juanita Lightfoot and Fannie West both of Amarillo, 4 grandchildren; Byno Atkins and his wife Kristi of Las Vegas, NV, Tony Atkins and his wife Lois of Bryan, Teresa Duncan and David Atkins and his wife Tina all of Amarillo, 13 great-grandchildren; Nicole Koetting, John Atkins, Lisa Atkins, Laura Atkins, Alyssa Lynch, Missy Duncan, Mindy Duncan, Cody Felton, Joshua Atkins, Brady Atkins, Jacob Atkins, Austin Atkins and Taylor Atkins, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Colby Koetting and Abigail Koetting. The family requests donations to the First United Methodist Church of Mobeetie.
