Karen Evans, 72 of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Amarillo Memorial Services will be at 5:00 pm Friday at South Georgia Baptist Church with Mike Martin and Vaughn Tatum Officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sumner, OK. Cremation and Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Karen was born on January 13, 1942 in Perry, OK to Kenneth and Opal Evans. She graduated high school in Levelland and attended North Texas State University in Denton. Karen was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She owned up to seven womens clothing stores in Texas named The Voyager. Travel was a life-long love of hers. She was a former resident of Ft. Collins, CO, Hutchinson, KS, and Clyde, TX. Karen lived in the Middle East during the 1970s and was as a two time volunteer with the Peace Corps of the United States. In 1992- 1994 Uruguay, South America, and in 2011-2012 Armenia. She is preceded in death by, her parents, a brother Ken Evens, and Grandparents, J.A. and Mabel McFarland, Francis and Mabel Evans all of Perry, OK She is survived by her son, Steven Scott Whipple and wife Ruth of Houston, a daughter, Shelly Whipple of Fort Collins, CO; a sister Kathy Tatum and husband Vaughn of Amarillo, and two grandchildren Brendan Scott Whipple and Meghan Opal Whipple of Houston. Aunts and Uncle Wanda Phillips, James and Juanima McFarland all of OK. Nieces and Nephews: Bryan Evans, Kirk and Lynda Evans, Kelly Flowers, all of Pennsylvania. David and Denise Tatum of Van Buren, Arkansas; Chris and Dalea Tatum of Amarillo, TX; Jayme and Laura Carr of Carrollton, TX, Numerous Cousins
