Arrangements and cremation are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. Lance Everett Weathersby was born on March 6, 1948 in Lubbock, Texas to Newton Everett Weathersby and Nell Faye Jeffcoat Weathersby. Lance attended school in Lubbock and graduated from Monterey High School in 1966. Lance loved playing in the plainsmen band and served as the band president. Lance was just saying the other day that his high school years were some if his best and how he still has many of those friendships to this day. Lance was always a hard worker. His first job was selling Spudnut Donuts door to door on Saturday mornings at the age of 14, and after that, he had a newspaper delivery route, and lawn mowing business. Lance graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in accounting. He was very proud to be a Texas Tech Red Raider. After graduating from Tech, he used his accounting skills in the concrete business, Lance worked in the family owned business, Builders Redi-Mix Concrete, learning all aspect of the business eventually settling on finance in the automotive industry, and finally starting Capital Asset Resources with his long time friend, Carl Wilson. He was very involved in Jaycees and was at times, President and Community Projects planner. Lance was blessed with two amazing daughters, Wendi Laine and Aimee Carol, who he raised as a single dad. They were the joy of his life, and he enjoyed coaching their basketball teams throughout their school years as well as being involved in their school PTA, as treasurer. He was a master at putting their hair in ponytails. Lance met Paula, the love of his life in 2001 at a car show of course, and they married in 2002. His love of cars had started at a young age, building model cars in his closet, which was his first auto shop. He never lost his passion for cars, and was still looking forward to turning a wrench, even in his final days. He and Paula loved traveling, and while on a road trip, they made a list of all the cars he had owned. He was 67 at the time and had owned 67 cars. Jay Leno had nothing on him! He knew his cars! He told one of the son-in-laws, "Dont let Paula sell the cars and car stuff for what I told her I paid for them!" They will tell you that they may have gotten a late start in life being husband and wife, but God must have said, "lets make up for lost time in the valley and mountain department " so he pack a lifetime of memories in 19 years. It was a rough start for sure when weeks into their marriage, they rolled a truck while pulling horses in a trailer, then becoming stranded in Mexico during a hurricane. But the highs with the births of the grandchildren, addition of wonderful friends, cruises and vacations, homes, and jobs were blessings beyond what they could ever have dreamed. Besides being an amazing dad, he was a much loved step-dad to Whitney Bernard and Brice Allard. He was a loved and respected father-in-law to Scott Doane, Brad Tarver, Terence Bernard and Monica Allard. Lance was a wonderful Grandad to nine grandchildren: Tyler and Trevor Doane; Gracen Tarver; Hadley, Ryan and Kyndal McClain; Jakeb, Abel, and Brice II Allard. His grandkids have many beautiful memories from summer vacations with Grandad and Nana. He was also a beloved older brother to Rick and uncle to Matthew Lance Weathersby. Lance said he has lived a full blessed life, and through the years has developed a closer walk with the Lord. Just days ago he said hes not dying, hes just starting his forever life and he looks forward to seeing his parents and his baby sister, Janice Carol. Dont think for a moment Lance is in Heaven "resting in peace"! Hes there, enjoying a body that he has been longing for. And, since Heaven is Gods perfect place, built for us to enjoy...........Heaven may have gotten louder with the VROOM VROOM of the TEXASHOTROD.
