Laquida Russell-Merritt

LaQuida Russell-Merritt 56 of Amarillo went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at Cornerstone Church, 505 S. Tennessee with Jim Loper, pastor officiating. Cremation was by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. LaQuida was born on July 29, 1956 in Oxnard, CA. She lived in Amarillo most of her life. She graduated from Caprock High School. LaQuida was deeply loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed. Her lifetime of diabetes never stopped her from serving others. She enjoyed baking and loved her family, church and neighbors. She knew more about true relationships than most. Through the midst of her long-sufferings, LaQuida had incredible joy, and she was one heck of a card player. She married Ricky Merritt on October 28, 1976 in Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a devoted member of Cornerstone Church. She was preceded in death by her birth father, Leon Hitt and an infant son, Jeremy. She is survived by her husband Ricky, one son, Russ Merritt of San Diego, CA; 1 sister Edna Earnie and her husband Mike of Beaumont; 2 brothers, James Russell and his wife Serita of Iowa Park and Steve Russell and his wife Tanya of Amarillo; her mother and father, Eugene and Betty Russell of Yuma, AZ and 3 grandchildren, Marcus, Madison and Mia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Cornerstone Academy 505 S. Tennessee, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
