Lelia Chavez Green

Lelia Chavez Green, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, October 18, 2021. The funeral service is at 11 am Friday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel officiated by James Griffin with Temple Baptist Church. Interment will be Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. The family will receive guests Wednesday and Thursday 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Lelia was born in Amarillo on July 18, 1942, to Eva and Perfecto Chavez. She was a loving, kind-hearted woman. In her early years, she was a stay-at-home mother raising her four children. She became a preschool teacher at Sanborn Elementary School. She enjoyed being around children and watching them develop. Later she started working for the Amarillo police department. After 16 years of service, Lelia retired from the police department in 95. She then started working for the state in the parole office. She enjoyed feeding the neighborhood cats, watching CSI, and Law and Order. Lelia was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Darrell Green, one brother, Alfred Cruz, four sisters; Silvia Chavez, Gloria Chavez, Pauline Bargas, and Ofelia Garcia.
