Maria Hurtado

Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grand Avenue Baptist Church with Jim Gose, pastor, and Jacinto Alderete officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Hurtado was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Mexico. She became a naturalized American citizen on Aug. 5, 1996, and lived in Amarillo for more than 65 years. Mrs. Hurtado worked at Wesley Community Center for more than 30 years as a custodian, cook and volunteer. She loved crafting, quilting, bowling and gardening, and was an excellent cook. She married Jose A. Hurtado Sr. on March 2, 1942, in San Angelo. He preceded her in death in 2004. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carolyn Sue Hurtado of Houston; and a grandson, Israel Salinas of Amarillo. Survivors include 10 children, Ignacio Hurtado and Jose A. Hurtado Jr., both of Houston, Eloisa Benavidez of Bushton, Kan., Mitridates Hurtado, Aurora Pereida, Lucinda Alaniz and Rebecca Hansen, all of Amarillo, Criseida Garcia, Ulises Hurtado, both of Boyd, and Genaro Hurtado of Bridgeport; 36 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Wesley Community Center, 1615 S. Roberts St., Amarillo, TX 79102. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
