Maria Emiliana Luera

November 1, 1932 — January 14, 2024

Maria Emiliana "Emma" Luera, a beacon of joy and matriarch of the Luera family, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the age of 91, in her hometown of Amarillo, Texas. Emma, as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, was born on November 1, 1932, in Amarillo, where she cultivated a life rich in love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Emma's youthful spirit and zest for life were evident to all who knew her. In her younger years, she could often be found on the dance floor, moving gracefully to the music she adored. Even as the years passed, her love of dance never waned, and she continued to enjoy music and movement in her own unique ways. Emma's presence at the local bar, sipping a drink and watching the joy of others dancing, was a testament to her enduring appreciation for the liveliness of her community.

A loving mother and grandmother, Emma's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Irma L. Garcia and Christina Luera; three sons, Andres Luera Jr., Agustin Luera, and Manuel Luera; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Martha Ramirez. Emma's legacy is further cherished in the hearts of her many friends and extended family members who were touched by her kindness and warmth. She is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, Andres Luera, and her cherished grandson, Daniel Luera and granddaughter Monica Luera, two Brothers: Manuel, and Juan Navarrete, who preceded her in death.

Emma's home was a hub of activity and affection, where the aroma of her best homemade tortillas often filled the air. Her culinary skills brought together family and friends, creating a tapestry of moments centered around her delicious cooking. Her selfless nature shone through in these gatherings, as she always put the needs and happiness of others before her own.

Her sense of humor was a source of constant delight, bringing laughter and lightness to any situation. Emma's playful banter and quick wit were the heartbeat of many family events, leaving a legacy of joyous memories. Emma's commitment to her appearance was unwavering; she took pride in presenting herself with elegance and grace, ensuring she always looked her best.

A woman of diverse interests, Emma found pleasure in the simple pastimes of life. She was an avid fan of Texas sports, cheering with fervor for the Texas Rangers, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Dallas Cowboys. Her passion for her teams was matched only by her enthusiasm for games of checkers and cards, which she enjoyed immensely with her grandchildren.

Emma's love extended beyond her family and hobbies. She nurtured her home with the same care and attention she gave to her loved ones. Her yard was a place of tranquility and beauty, tended to by her diligent hands. It was a reflection of her love for life and her desire to create a welcoming space for all who visited.

As we bid farewell to Maria Emiliana "Emma" Luera, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love and dedication. Her memory will be treasured as a loving, selfless, and funny soul who made the world a brighter place. Emma's spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her influence will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Emma's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but the echoes of her laughter and the warmth of her love will resonate for generations to come.
