Maria 'Chavela' Martinez

Maria "Chavela" Martinez, 77, of Amarillo died Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Mass is 2:00 pm Friday at our lady of Guadalupe officiated by Fr Gomez. The burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. The family will receive guests Thursday 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Maria was born in Amarillo July 11, 1944 to Jobita and Sotera Soria. Maria had a big heart, caring, and always opened her home to anyone in need. She made sure to take care of everyone. She loved to cook. She especially enjoyed baking cakes. She loved to bake German chocolate cakes from scratch. She was very passionate about her family. Maria loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. she married the love of her life, Robert Martinez on January 21, 1966. Maria is preceded in death by one son, John Richard Martinez, and her sister, Antonio Padilla. She is survived by her husband, her daughter, Josephine Martinez, her four sons; Benny Martinez and his wife Nannette, Robert Martinez and his wife Renee, Angel and Michael Martinez, 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
