Maria Delrefugio Tamez 82 of Amarillo died Monday, July 11, 2016 in Amarillo. Memorial Mass will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at St, Martins Catholic Church with Msgr. Rex Nicholl, celebrant officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Tamez was born on September 28, 1933 in Pedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. She moved to Eagle Pass when she was 8 years old. She graduated from high school in Eagle Pass and returned to Mexico to pursue a Law Degree. She married Erasmo Tamez in 1956. She helped him receive his CPA and became a stay at home mom. Maria was very charismatic. She loved giving to her family, her church and community. She enjoyed travelling and taught authentic Ballet florelorico dance. She taught her children to be independent and courageous. The most important words from her, to her family were I love you. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marta Alicia Russell. She is survived by two daughters, Maria Lourdes Tamez of Amarillo and Alejandria League of Livingston, CA; one son, Erasmo Tamez of Paso Robles, CA and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
