Marion H. Smith Jr.

Marion H. Smith, Jr., 85 of Amarillo died Thursday July 19, 2007. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Edith Ford Cemetery in Canadian, with Gary Jahnel, Baptist minister officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 8310 S. Coulter St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Smith was born in Gem, Texas. He moved to Amarillo in 1972 From Canadian. He attended Texas A&M University. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Smith worked as a farmer and rancher while in Canadian. He and his wife later owned and operated the KOA in Amarillo. He married Edythe Sipes in 1941 at Canadian. She preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include: 2 daughters, Frankie Smith of Fullerton, CA, and Cathy Conyers and husband Ed of Port Orford, OR; 1 sister, Elizabeth Scott of Dixon, MO; 2 grandchildren, Dawn Guela of Seattle, WA, and Star Conyers of Irvine, CA; 1 great-grandson, Liam Guela. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VistaCare Hospice, 7116 W I-40, Amarillo, TX 79106.
