Martha Reese, 89 of Hereford, died Tuesday October 25 in Hereford. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Guymon with Rev. Jimmy Reese, son and Derek Cox, pastor of First Baptist Church of Guymon officiating. Private family interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 South Coulter and Henson-Novak Funeral Home of Guymon. Mrs. Reese was born Sept. 27, 1916 to Finley M. and Sally Proffer in Gainesville, TX. She became a Christian and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and very active all of her life. Martha and her family moved to Amarillo in 1938. She became a member Pierce Street Baptist Church. In 1950 the family moved to Guymon, OK. She taught in the children's Sunday school. She was a devoted to the building of a new church complex at the First Baptist Church. Martha served on the building committee. Her Christianity and service to the church was a significant part of her life. She was a member and officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served with pride and enjoyed a great fellowship. Martha was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. Martha managed Zeller's Jewelry store until the age of 82. In 1999 she moved to Dallas with her daughter and to Hereford in 2000. She was an avid sports fan and always cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. She was once kissed by Bill Bates, which was a highlight of her life. She was also pictured with Roger Staubach. Martha had a great host of friends from all walks of life and was loved by all who knew her. She especially loved being around young people. Survivors include: 1 son, Jimmy Reese and his wife Elaine of Canyon; 1 daughter, Jacque Carter of Hereford; 1 sister, Marguerite Green of Amarillo; 3 grandchildren, Lee Carter and wife Susan of Canyon, Sara and her husband Dr. Don Sharnowski of Lubbock; Shane Reese and his wife Shana of Miami, FL; and 3 great-grandchildren, Christpher Carter of Albuquerque, NM, Eric Carter of Pampa and Ryland Reese of Miami, FL. Viewing will be Friday at Henson-Novak Funeral Home 501 W. 5th Guymon, OK.
