Marvin H. Bettag MSGT (ret) 83, of Amarillo, died Saturday Wednesday December 21, 2011 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at Memorial Park East Mausoleum Chapel with Mike Ecker, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the Blue Knights Honor Guard from Altus Air Force Base. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Bettag was born in Clarksville, Ind. He moved to Amarillo in 1974 from Abilene. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War where he served 6 tours of duty. He retired after 20 years of honorable service. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Bettag attended West Texas State University where he received a bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for Bell Helicopter until his retirement in 1989. He married Flora Faye Morris in 1953. She preceded him in death in 2000. He was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Diedra Bettag in 1974 and Cindy Bettag in 2010. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He loved to golf and collect coins. Mr. Bettag is survived by 3 sons, Mike Bettag of Kingston, OK., Marvin R. Bettag and Marcus A. Bettag, both of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Saturday and suggests memorial donations to Immanuel Baptist Church 927 N. Mirror Amarillo, Texas 79107. There will be no visitation on Christmas Day.
