Marvin Richardson

Marvin Richardson 93, of Amarillo died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Amarillo Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Rev. Bill Wade officiating. Masonic Rites will be by San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #1330 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Marvin was born on a farm near Seaton on November 13, 1920. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After being honorably discharged, Marvin began his career in law enforcement. He became a police officer for the Temple Police Department in 1948. He moved to Amarillo in 1952 and joined the Amarillo Police Department. Marvin was one of the first motorcycle officers in Amarillo. He was promoted to lieutenant on April 16, 1961. In his 41 years as a police officer, he served in nearly every division. In his last years as an officer he served as Range Master and was in personnel and training division when the APD ran their own academy. He retired on February 28, 1989. Marvin was very active in the community. He was a member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #1330, A.E. Shirley #986 Order of the Eastern Star, the Amarillo Commandery, the Khiva Shrine Temple and was a DeMolay Dad. He was also a long time member of Buchannan Street United Methodist Church. He married the love of his life, Doris Guenzel in 1949. Marvin was welcomed home to Heaven by his wife Doris, 2 sons, Jimmy and Jamie as well as several other family members and friends. He is survived by his son, Roy Gene Richardson and his wife Huong of Yuma, AZ; two daughters, Bertha Jean Kinsinger and her husband Arthur of Killeen and Charlotte Jefcoat and her husband George of Dacula, GA; one brother, Buford Richardson of Fort Worth; one sister, Mary Smith of Little River-Academy and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM 7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and suggest memorial donations, in lieu of flowers to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 Main St. Houston, TX 77030.
