Mary fulfilled her calling from God, serving those around her with love. Growing up at the Ranchito, she aided her mother in caring for her siblings, often remembered preparing meals, chopping wood, and fetching water from the well. She met the love of her life Ventura, in Mosquero, at a dance. The two married in 1951 and began to share a life moving to Dalhart TX, and eventually planting roots in Amarillo TX, where they began to grow their family. Mary worked at El Palacio as the cook specializing in chile Rellenos, tortillas, and sopapillas, where she practiced her English. Mary was generous to each person she met, and she never met a stranger. Shed laugh and share stories of her life to all that would listen. She took time out of her day to call and check on those around her and prayed a prayer for all. She raised 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and multiple great-grandchildren along with other family. Mary was always supportive and ready to cook a meal no matter the time or start a fresh pot of coffee to sit and chat. The home she created welcomed all as they are, and was a safe haven to all to take a break from lifes indiscretions. Mary spent considerable time in prayer and looked to God for guidance even in her last days. For her husband, children, and grandchildren, Mary was the light of the world: an endless source of comfort, strength, courage, and joy. Marys laughter came easily, often, and loudly. In the quiet of its absence, those she loved will carry with them the wisdom, patience, and grace she gave so freely and selflessly.
