Mary Lenore Vukelic Thompson, 92 of Amarillo died Thursday July 17, 2014 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 23 at Llano Cemetery Field of Valor. with Father Scott Raef of St. Mary Cathedral and Rev Reed Redus of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. First Generation American, Mary was born to Frank and Anka Vukelic at Liberty Tsp, IL on September 27, 1921. After graduating from Wilkes - Barre Business College, Mary joined the Navy and served in Bronx, NY and Washington, DC as Specialist Second Class from 1944-1946. Mary married Lee Otis Thompson at Scott Air Force Base July 1, 1948 Mary loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. As a strong Catholic she read her bible daily. She will be remembered for her honesty, sincerity and heartfelt generosity. MeMaw loved playing scrabble with her grandchildren, talks with her children, and reading a book daily until her passing. She lived a quiet, simple life but left her indelible mark on the world. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, her only sister Olga Parrott, and her great grandson Jaxon Fielder Griggs. She is survived by four sons, Bruce Thompson and wife Marisin of Annapolis, MD, Richard Thompson and wife Patty, Greg Thompson and wife Moneisa, and Chris Thompson all of Amarillo, two daughters, Terry Lee Thompson - Smith and husband Charlie, and Ann Thompson - Redus and husband Mark both of Amarillo. 22 grandchildren; Ami, Isaac, Bethany, Robert, Christina, Bethany, Michele, David, Tracy, Missy, Shelly, Staci, Sarah, Ryan, Natasha, Bryan, Brent, Gregory, Anna, Rebecca, Alex, and Scott. 32 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. Family suggest memorial be sent to St. Francis Convent 4301 NE 18th Ave Amarillo, Texas 79107
