Maurine Sober Traweek, 86, died Thursday at BSA Hospice in Amarillo. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Tucker, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Maurine Sober Traweek was born January 29, 1916 in western Oklahoma to Hugh and Bessie Sober. She moved to Oklahoma City at age three, where she lived until her marriage to Julian C. Traweek, Jr. in 1934. They were actively involved in church work until his death in 1990. Mrs. Traweek attended Oklahoma University at Weatherford, Decatur Baptist College, West Texas State University at Canyon, and received her degree from North Texas State University at Denton at age 41. She worked as an elementary and music teacher for 20 years. She retired from the Amarillo Independent School District in 1979. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who dedicated her life to God and her family. Survivors include two daughters, Ureta Potter and Janet Wright, both of Amarillo; 2 sons, Jack Traweek of San Manuel, AZ, and Warren Traweek of Tucson, AZ; 1 sister, Mildred West and her husband Clovis West of Taloga, OK; a brother-in-law, John Traweek and his wife Vena Merle of Bangs, TX; a sister-in-law, Patsy Traweek of Thrifty, TX; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
