Merton Lee Johnson

Merton Johnson 92, of Amarillo died Sunday May 26, 2013 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Johnson was born in Christine, TX. He graduated from Concord High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII, where he served as a drill instructor. He was stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Base and was honorably discharged in 1944 as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband, father and friend. He worked for ACCO Feeds as the night supervisor. He retired in 1986 and more than 20 years of faithful service He married Jerry Sherrea Fisher on June 26, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2003 He is survived by his one son, Johnny Johnson and his wife Jeanne of Amarillo; one daughter, Karen Griffin and her husband Rodney of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren Leslie Stover of Kyle,TX, DeAnna Turner of Morning Sun,IA, Stacy Griffin, Danny Johnson, and Eric Johnson all of Amarillo, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Southwest
