Nelda Lewis

Nelda Lewis 88, formerly of Dumas died Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in Amarillo. Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Amarillo Church of Christ, 9999 S. Western St. Burial will follow at Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel. Nelda was born on May 15, 1930 in Ballinger to Roy J. and Eula M. (Redwine) Hayes. She married Ralph Lewis in 1946 in Gunter. They moved to Dumas in 1960 from Gunter. She was a homemaker and a mother of 5. She helped her husband in farming for more than 40 years and with managing the rental properties they owned in Dumas. Nelda enjoyed gardening and flowers. She also loved quilting, canning and sewing. Nelda was kind hearted and was always helping others. She was a faithful member of the Dumas Church of Christ and attended the Amarillo Church of Christ after moving to Amarillo. Nelda was preceded in death by her husband in 2014, a son, Nelson Lewis in 2017, a daughter in law, Mary Helen Lewis in 2017 and two brothers, Hubert and Keith Hayes. She is survived by three sons, Dale Lewis of Amarillo, Tommy Lewis and his wife Cindy of Gilmer and Eddie Lewis and his wife Rebecca of Universal City; her daughter, Kathy Linnville of Amarillo; one brother, Darrel Hayes of Dumas; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of extended family.
