Nelda F. ""Spud"" Wortham. 77 of Amarillo died Wednesday March 5, 2008 at Amarillo. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at Golden Plains Church of Christ with Paul Camp, pastor officiating. Cremation was by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Wortham was born in Childress February 20, 1931 to George and Ethel (Courtney) Wyre. She moved to Amarillo at the age of 6. She graduated from Amarillo high School in 1949. After high School, Mrs. Wortham attended Amarillo College where she was enrolled in banking courses. She worked for First National Bank for many years. She retired on October 31, 1986. Mrs. Wortham was an avid sport fan, especially golf. She loved square dancing and was an honorary member of the Pioneer Promenaders. She was a member of the Golden Plains Church of Christ. She married James M. Wortham on August 10, 1950 at Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Survivors include: her husband of the home; 1 son, Dr. Barry Wortham and his wife Becki of San Antonio; 1 sister Mary Branam of California and 3 grandchildren, Ashley Wortham and Mason Wortham both of San Antonio and Courtney Wortham of Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be to The High Plains Children's Home 11461 S. Western Amarillo, Texas 79118.
