A proud veteran, Smitty served his country as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his days. His bravery and dedication during his time in the United States Army were a testament to his character and his love for his nation.
Following his military service, Smitty's zest for life led him to a variety of passions and pursuits. He was a talented drummer and reveled in the rhythm and camaraderie of being a band member with Da Boogey Men. His love for music was only matched by his enthusiasm for the open road, as he found joy and freedom riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the wind in his hair and a wide smile on his face.
Smitty's adventurous spirit also found an outlet in his time as a lifeguard and a platform high diver, where his athleticism and fearlessness were on full display. Smitty was indeed a very funny guy, and his ability to light up a room with his friendliness and humor will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Kayce Chapmon, and his beloved daughter, Dorthy Eye, who will continue to honor his memory by living life to the fullest, as he always did.
